In May of 2006, a small group of radiologic technologists, started talking about rebuilding the former local x-ray society, DARTS (Dallas Area Radiologic Technologist Society). We wanted to form a society that could raise money for the TSRT (Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists) legislative issues, provide the opportunity to network with other radiographers in the area, and to honor local radiographers. Betty Belvin, treasurer, and Ande Shoults, president elect of DARTS at the time of its demise, were still in contact and there were still funds available in the DARTS bank account. In June of 2006, several technologists came together to discuss forming a new society, and to see if there was enough support to move forward. Officers were elected and a new name was chosen for the society. Next, we held a contest for the design of our logo. In September, 2006 the officers of the newly formed society were installed by Willard Filyaw. October found us working on our bylaws and the upcoming Top 25 Radiographer Banquet. In November 2006, we held our first Top 25 banquet at the Radisson Hotel. We were 85 members strong at that time and we had more than 130 people attending the banquet. We donated $500.00 to the TSRT legislative fund. The banquet was a great success! After we caught our breath, work began on the Spring Fling. It was held in April and offered continuing education (CE) credits. We had a great turnout and we were able to donate $1000.00 directly to the President of TSRT, Dr. James Johnston. A couple of more meetings were held where one hour of CE was available. New officers were elected in August and installed in September by Cece Shelmon. Serving in the society is a great deal of fun and many new friendships have been made. |
